Doug is also the author of the book series Jump Start, a former judge for the ABC-TV show American Inventor, and past holder of the very cool job title “Master Marketing Inventor” at Procter & Gamble—the company that makes everything from Tide® detergent to Pringles® potato chips. Q: What do you see as being the real value of innovation?

Doug: It’s quite simple. Innovation helps you be meaningfully unique, which helps you improve your profit margin. And in business, it’s all about profit. If you’re not meaningfully unique, you better be cheap.

Meet the new USPTO director

President Obama has nominated engineer-turned-attorney David Kappos to be the next Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property… a position that also has the title of being Director of the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.
